Snorkeler

Venture into the underwater world...

Snorkeling is a a great way to enjoy the beauty of the ocean and discover aquatic ecosystems, all while floating on the surface.

The name comes from the use of a snorkel, which is a tube that allows you to breathe while your face is submerged.  This tube is attached to a mask so you are able to see underwater. Many snorkelers also wear fins to help them swim more easily, and a wetsuit to keep them warm.

Snorkeling is popular in shallow waters, such as coral reefs, where you can observe marine life, plants, and other underwater features without needing scuba gear. However for many people, knowing HOW to snorkel effectively and safely is a concern - it was from this concern that our Snorkeler course was born.

We aim to make you confident ocean snorkelers, who understand how to get the most out of their experience, all whilst staying safe and comfortable.

What's the process?

Learning to snorkel with us is a 2-part process: Theory & In-Water Skills.

Theory - We run an in-house theory session, led by one of our Instructors, during which we cover all the aspects we feel are necessary to become a safe and confident snorkeler.  The theory breaks down into 4 sections: Being A Snorkeler, Snorkeling Equipment, The Aquatic Environment & Snorkel Safety.  Theory is normally run as an evening session, after normal work hours.

In-Water - For our Snorkeler course, we like to run our initial in-water skill session at a local swimming pool.  There we can practice all the various skills as much as you feel you need to.  These pool sessions are normally held on a weekend, either on a Saturday or Sunday morning.

We then offer an optional Open Water snorkel.  For those who want to, we will head to a nearby ocean snorkeling site together.  We will plan and then execute a snorkel, where you take the lead, but we are there as backup.  There is no extra charge for the open water snorkel, and it normally takes place on the afternoon following the pool session.

What does it cost, and what do I need?

Our Snorkeler course costs $300/person and you will need the following items to participate:

  • Mask (with nose pocket)

  • Snorkel (ideally with purge valve)

  • Fins (ideally with neoprene boots as well)

  • Wetsuit (we suggest 5mm minimum)

We can rent you the above items should you prefer, however there will be an added cost for that.
