Safety Snorkeler

Be the safest snorkeler in any situation

Our Safety Snorkeler course was designed specifically to focus on enhancing the skills and knowledge necessary to ensure safety while snorkeling, both for oneself and others.  The course aims to instill increased confidence and competence in snorkelers, ensuring you can enjoy the underwater world safely while being prepared for any situations that may arise.

The course covers the causes of snorkel emergencies & critical incident stress.  You will learn to be prepared for a snorkel emergency, encompassing accident management, and the first aid skills to deal with snorkel-related injuries.  And finally you will practice practical skills and scenarios to help you prepare yourself should you ever be faced with a real life emergency.

What's the process?

Becoming a Safety Snorkeler is a 3-part process: Theory, In-Water Skills & Ocean Assessment.

Theory - During your instructor-led in-house theory session, you will discuss the following topics: The Psychology of Rescue, Being Prepared for a Snorkeler Emergency, Accident Management, & Responding to Snorkeling Emergencies.  Theory is normally run as an evening session, after normal work hours.

In-Water - The in-water skill session for Safety Snorkeler is run at a local swimming pool.  You will run through a number of exercises, aimed at making you consider different options for rescuing someone in need.  These pool sessions are normally held on a Saturday.

Ocean Assessment - following a successful skills session, you will then bring your skills to the ocean, and complete a number of scenarios designed to run the gamut of possible snorkel emergencies and test your problem solving abilities.  This session usually takes place on the Sunday following the pool session.

What does it cost, and what do I need?
